Pflueger Refreshes Supreme Spinning Reels With Magnesium Frames From $149.95
Pflueger's refreshed Supreme costs $149.95 and the Supreme XT $199.95. Both have magnesium frames, carbon rotors and a faster 6.2:1 gear ratio, and are on sale now.

Pflueger, a brand of Pure Fishing, has refreshed its Supreme and Supreme XT spinning reels. Both are built around lightweight materials and a faster gear ratio, and both are available now. The standard Supreme is priced at $149.95, while the Supreme XT costs $199.95. The pitch is simple: construction usually found on pricier reels, without flagship money.
What both reels share
The two models use the same core build. Each has a magnesium frame, a carbon rotor and a machined aluminum main gear. Both also have a 6.2:1 gear ratio, which is faster than the previous generation. Gear ratio describes how many times the spool turns for each turn of the handle, so a higher number means a quicker retrieve. Pflueger says that suits finesse presentations, which are light, subtle ways of working a bait.
Both reels also include slow oscillation, a design that spreads line across the spool more evenly. Pflueger says this improves line management, meaning cleaner line lay and fewer tangles over a long day. Each reel comes with a braid-ready aluminum spool.
The Supreme at $149.95
The Supreme has a 10-bearing system and a sealed drag, which is meant to give smooth, steady pressure when a fish pulls. It uses an aluminum handle. At $149.95 it sits in the middle of the market, and the maker says it offers a magnesium frame and carbon rotor that are usually reserved for higher price points. It is pitched at anglers who want a versatile freshwater reel or a second spinning rod on the boat.
The Supreme XT at $199.95
The Supreme XT adds three upgrades: an 11-bearing system, a carbon handle and a sealed carbon drag. The company says the $50 difference buys real improvements, not cosmetic ones, and that the carbon handle and drag add to smoothness and long-term durability. It is aimed at people who fish often and want a more refined feel.
What it means for anglers
For bass and walleye anglers who use spinning gear, these reels land in an appealing spot. Spinning setups are common for light lines and finesse baits, and weight matters when you are casting all day. A lighter frame and a quicker retrieve can make those long outings less tiring.
The choice between the two comes down to how much you fish. If you are building a general-purpose setup, the Supreme covers the basics. If you are on the water often and you notice the feel of a handle and drag, the extra $50 for the XT is easy to justify on paper.
- Supreme: 10 bearings, sealed drag, aluminum handle, $149.95.
- Supreme XT: 11 bearings, sealed carbon drag, carbon handle, $199.95.
What we do not know yet
The announcement comes from the manufacturer, so claims about durability and smoothness have not been independently tested. It also does not list reel sizes, weights or line capacities, which matter when matching a reel to a rod. Anglers who are interested should check the full specifications at pfluegerfishing.com and look for hands-on reviews before buying.
